After being closed for 25 years, the historic Hotel President in the downtown Kansas City, Mo., has made an exciting comeback. The hotel reopened on Jan. 5, as the new Hilton President Kansas City following a $45 million restoration.

The President was a swinging place when it opened in 1926. Its lively Drum Room attracted musicians and entertainers from across the country, including Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Harry Houdini and Marilyn Maye. The hotel was the headquarters for the 1928 Republican National Convention, which nominated Herbert Hoover for president. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
